Active JW's, can you defend "THE TRUTH?"
by DATA-DOG inas of yet, no member of the jehovah's witness faith can defend their unique beliefs.
when the dust settles, it all comes down to blind faith in men's ever-changing ideas.
this "unique belief" was not a "true teaching of the bible.

Warwick and transport to meetings
by berrygerry ini would imagine that most brooklyn bethelites attended congo meetings via subway.. how do they manage transport from warwick?.
-
Room 215
I believe they're going to have a real logistical problem, in that there are far too many Bethelites per capita to farm out to the limited number of local congregations within reasonable driving range.

Why Did JWs Abandon Brooklyn for the Sticks?
by Room 215 ini may have missed this, but can anyone tell me what was the pretext the gb concocted to justify their abandonment of a perfectly suitable, high-profile, high-visibility complex in what is arguably the world's greatest metropolis for the bucolic isolation of upstate new york.
any how does the move square with their purported belief in the imminence of armageddon?

Sure, money is the underlying reason for the move. I suppose my question really is: how did they sell it to the rank and file?

Jehovah's Limp Witnesses Pointed Me to JW.org When I Was Willing to Talk
by steve2 inseveral months ago i approached a nice young couple who were standing by a jw literature stand in my local community.
they were pleasant and polite but incredibly stilted when it came to answering my "innocent" questions about their beliefs.
this was the occasion of jws featuring the article headlined "is religion dying?".

"The tracts are just testimony cards." --- Right, Schnell; and the Ipads are a modern equivalent of Rutherford's phonographs, the literature carts are JW's contemporary sandwich boards/placards... Talk about regression!

"Certain states in Australia already have mandatory reporting and I would see this as the #1 candidate for federal change." Right, Konceptual99; if I correctly recall Jackson's testimony, at one point he hinted that enactment of a federal law to require mandatory reporting would be a welcome outcome to them.

Turkeys ... to brine or not to brine (recipe)
by RubaDub inbeing that time of the year when you can buy turkeys so cheap (most jw's i know but at least a couple) or in some cases food stores give one away with a purchase exceeding some dollar amount, i was just interested in any interesting recipes.. we usually do the brine thing (3/4 cup salt to 1 gallon of water, a few packets of chicken bouillon, some random additional spices, dry or fresh as desired).
cover the turkey completely and then let it soak overnight ( we usually do about an hour a pound).
not a real precise recipe but it does, in our opinion, make for a much more juicy bird without the typical dryness that often happens.. depending on the size of your refrigerator, it may take some gymnastics to get a big pot with a turkey in it.

Picture-prefect and delicious turkey, my way: dry-brine it (1 tbsp of kosher salt for every 5 pounds of bird; easier and far superior to wet brining); rub salt over the entire bird, and if you're willing to take the trouble, get some of it under the breast skin
THEN: Put it uncovered in a pan in the fridge for up to three days (the longer the better). When ready for the oven, melt about 6 ounces of butter in some chicken stock, immerse 2-3 layers of cheesecloth and drape it over the bird. covering it entirely. Add about one pint of stock, or white wine, or a combination of both to the roasting pan.
Pre-heat oven to 400 deg. F for 15-20 minutes, then reset the temperature to 325 F..for about 4 hours for a 20 pounder; check for doneness with a meat thermometer (your'e looking for 165 F for the dark meat, about 170 F for the white meat.)
Et voila'!

Jehovah's Witnesses Crime Against Grammar
by Simon inso this is really starting to grate on me the more i think about it because it's just wrong grammatically.. one of my friends always refers to me used to being "a jehovah witness" which used to grate whenever she said it but now it seems more correct.. think about it this way: bruce springsteen has fans.
they are fans of bruce springsteen or, bruce springsteen's fans.
but each of them isn't a bruce springsteen's fan.

"Jehovah's Witnesses," as in "I am one of Jehovah's Witnesses," is grammatically correct.

when sara told her parents that he no longer wanted to be a jehovah's witness, the father replied that he preferred the dead.

Nathan,
I wonder about your proficiency in speaking/understanding a foreign language; your snide remark doesn't deserve Afrikanman's temperate reply.

Watchtower's "New Light" re Babylonish Captivity, November 2016 WT
by Room 215 inhas anyone noticed the wt's most recent shell-game revisionism in the november study tractazine, relating to the shifting of its "babylonish captivity" doctrine, from a 3 1/2-year period around the ww 1 years, to a period now spanning about 16 centuries, or from the 4th century (constantine's legal recognition of christianity) to 1919?.

So now, how do they explain the "Two Witnesses in Sackcloth for 42 Months" of Revelation 11?
